Bye-bye Bonnie?

Bonnie Crombie recently announced that she’s stepping down from the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party. But she didn’t announce her retirement from politics entirely. Is Crombie done with political life or does she have plans to run for another position? Is it time for Bonnie Crombie to say bye-bye to politics?

Crombie, who is 65 years old, was first elected to office in 2008 to serve as the Liberal MP for Mississauga – Streetsville. Although in 2011, she was defeated by Conservative candidate Brad Butt – who is now a Mississauga city councillor. Months later, Crombie herself ran for Mississauga council, winning a seat.

Following the passing of long-time mayor Hazel McCallion, Crombie ran and won the mayoralty. She served as mayor for 10 years until running for Ontario Liberal leader.

Current Mayor Carolyn Parrish is herself a former federal Liberal MP who then became a Mississauga councillor. Local politicians have a long history of jumping back and forth between levels of government, leaving many to ask if Bonnie Crombie plans to do the same or if this is now bye-bye Bonnie.
