Candidates register for Mississauga mayor, council races

The Mississauga municipal election is beginning to shape up as candidates for mayor and city council have begun to register for the October 26 election.

While the official start date of the election period was May 1, Mayor Carolyn Parrish visited the City Hall elections wicket two weeks later — on May 16 — to formally register for re-election.

“It’s been an incredible honour to complete the 2022-26 term and I look forward to a full term where experience, proven dedication and boundless energy will serve our city well,” Parrish posted in a statement.

In referencing completing the term, Parrish is referring to the fact that she has so far only served a half-term, as she was elected in a 2024 by-election following former mayor Bonnie Crombie’s resignation to become Ontario Liberal leader.

MPulse has heard from sources that while Crombie is considering challenging Parrish to retake her old job, she has not yet made a decision.

So far, the only major challenger registered to run for mayor against Parrish is Ward 2 Councillor Alvin Tedjo. In addition to having served on council, Tedjo is a former Ontario Liberal candidate both in the 2018 election and in their 2020 leadership race.

It is believed that most if not all current city councillors will be seeking re-election in their wards, aside from Tedjo
