Municipal election to vote for Mayor, Council is on Oct. 26
Toronto’s next municipal election is coming on Monday October 26, 2026. Nominations closed on August 21 and the City Clerk has certified the candidate list. In each of Scarborough’s six wards the incumbent councillor is running for re-election.
In Ward 20, Scarborough Southwest Parthi Kandavel is the incumbent. He won the by-election in 2023 with 27% of the vote, following the resignation of former long-time councillor Gary Crawford. The second place finisher in that election was Kevin Rupasinghe, who received 23% of the vote and is running again this time.
In Ward 21, Scarborough Centre, sitting Councillor Michael Thompson is seeking re-election. He’s held the job since 2003 and won the last election in 2022 with 55% of the vote. This time around, 10 others are challenging Thompson for the seat, including Krissan Veerasingam, a local community advocate.
Incumbent Nick Mantas is running again in Ward 22, Scarborough-Agincourt. Mantas was first elected in a by-election in 2021 and then re-elected in 2022 with 49% of the vote. Also running in Ward 22 is Dan Lovell, who ran as the NDP candidate in Scarborough-Agincourt during the 2025 Federal Election.
In Ward 23, Scarborough North, incumbent Jamal Myers will face off against former federal politicians Shaun Chen and Han Dong, who, along with 5 other candidates, are vying for the council seat. Myers was elected in 2022 following the death of incumbent councillor Cynthia Lai just days before the municipal election on October 21, 2022.
Long-time incumbent councillor Paul Ainslie is running again in Ward 24, Scarborough-Guildwood. First elected in 2006, the councillor won the last election with 77% of the vote. There are 5 other registered candidates challenging Ainslie for the seat.
In Ward 25, Scarborough-Rouge Park, incumbent Nathan Shan is running against 9 other candidates. Shan was elected during the by-election last year to replace former councillor Jennifer McKelvie. Challenging him for the council seat this time is Shawn Allen, an entrepreneur and community advocate who placed third in the 2025 by-election.
