311 hold music to soon feature Mississauga musicians

Move over elevator muzzak, it’s for some local tunes courtesy of Music 311. The City of Mississauga is planning to reprogram its 311 service so that residents on hold awaiting assistance will be listening to local musicians.

“The program showcases the talent and diversity of Mississauga’s musicians while helping to build new audiences,” explains a City press release explaining Music 311. The music will also be broadcast on City council livestream feeds when they are not yet live.

Music 311 will select 12 recordings per year and the performers will be paid $300 for the use of their songs. The main criteria is that the lyrics must be appropriate for all ages and that in the case of a duo or band, the group need to be made up of at least half Mississauga residents.
