Philanthropic gift will support Scarborough students attending Centennial College. The funds provided by The Northpine Foundation at meant to help 50 students per year attend college.

Centennial College has received the largest philanthropic gift in their history, and it will go to providing financial assistance for Scarborough students.

The Northpine Foundation has provided $2.5 million to Centennial College to support students attending from Scarborough’s Neighbourhood Improvement Areas.

The contribution will support approximately 50 students per year who are attending programs geared towards high demand jobs such as health care, the skilled trades and applied technologies.

The students will receive financial assistance of $4,000 per year and the program includes student success advisors and work-integrated learning opportunities. The program will launch this fall.

The Northpine Foundation was founded by John and Cathy Phillips. The couple made the Centennial College funding announcement at the April 15 Scarborough Walk of Fame ceremony, where they were inducted into the Walk for their community work.

“Each year, we’ll support students not just to access post-secondary education, but to persist, graduate, and transition directly into careers,” said Neel Joshi, Impact Director at Northpine Foundation, in a news release.
