Construction projects aplenty in Northwest Mississauga

Construction projects aplenty in Northwest Mississauga. Projects include a new cricket pitch, widening of Ninth Line, new housing and flood mitigation.

As your City and Regional elected representative for Mississauga’s Ward 10, I am excited to share what’s on the horizon in terms of projects and amenity upgrades for the northwest corner of our city this year.

This coming April, make plans to attend the official Grand Opening of Phase 2 of Mattamy Sports Park at 5320 Ninth Line. The second phase includes a full-sized lit cricket pitch, another lit multi-purpose field, additional parking and washroom, plus the completion of the paved multi-use trail around the perimeter of the site.

Years of preparatory work on the widening of Ninth Line have culminated in the tender for construction being issued in late 2025. The contract is expected to be awarded in early 2026 with work starting in the spring at Eglinton Avenue and progressing north to Derry Road over the next 18 months.

The detailed design is complete, including two lanes of through traffic in each direction plus a centre median or left turn lanes where needed. Sidewalks and cycle tracks line both sides of the redesigned street. Utility pole relocation, sewer replacement and noise wall installation have already been part of the work leading up to the road widening project.

Repairs and upgrades to several parks will be complete in time for the start of the warm season, including Mississauga-Meadowvale Rotary Park on Tacc Drive, Lisgar Green on Osprey Boulevard, and Friendship Community Park on McDowell Drive. A new trail is being constructed west of the woodlot connecting Mattamy Sports Park to the residential community to the south.

To address flooding of properties near the Sixteen Mile Creek in Lisgar, the construction of Pumping Station #3 along Doug Leavens Blvd is expected to be complete in August and the start of Pumping Station #4 south of Osprey Blvd is expected to begin in July. The dredging of Osprey Marsh is scheduled for completion by November.

In terms of development, homes are being built west of Ninth Line between Osprey Blvd and Beacham Street, as well as Lisgar Drive north of Doug Leavens Blvd. It’s possible occupancy could begin before the end of this year.

These are just some of the projects going on in Ward 10 this year. To stay informed with timely updates about our community, subscribe to my monthly eNewsletter “Sue’s eNews” at www.MississaugaWard10.ca.

Wishing you a very healthy, safe and prosperous 2026!
