Obstacle course racing comes to Erindale Park

Mississauga residents will now be able to participate in obstacle course races right in their own neighbourhoods.

The physical fitness organization OxTrail OCR is bringing obstacle course racing to Erindale Park this October. Participants will be able to enter either as a team or as a solo individual.

Whether you’re an obstacle course race vet or rookie, OxTrail OCR has worked to combine competition with fun in a setting that includes accessible obstacles that test agility, strength, and mobility.

The idea to bring obstacle course racing to Mississauga was conceived by Ward 9 resident, Fehmi Sakkal. Inspired by his love for obstacle course racing but tired of driving hours to expensive races across Southern Ontario, Sakkal decided to start one right here in Mississauga.

“A city obstacle course race is more accessible in every way,” explains Sakkal, in an interview with MPulse. “It’s close and low cost.”

Sakkal hopes to attract all ages to the October 26th race with great prizes and modified obstacles that challenge the mind, not simply the body.

“We’ve made the obstacles less daunting for all ages – 17 to 70,” Sakkal states. “We’re offering prizes for winners and discounts, as well.”

OxTrail OCR is a registered community group with the City of Mississauga. As a local non-profit, one of its objectives is to spark interest in obstacle course racing and provide an outlet for fitness communities to come together and showcase Mississauga’s natural spaces.

Supported by volunteers and local fitness communities, OxTrail OCR hopes this first race will be the start of a new tradition in Mississauga, building bridges between fitness and community.

Expect good vibes, high energy, community spirit, and an inclusive obstacle course that’s challenging enough for seasoned racers and first-timers, alike. To learn more or register go to www.oxtrailocr.ca
