We used to think it wasn’t something for us, until we gave it a try and saw results within the first week
Years ago, I heard a story about someone who’d fasted for weeks, and assumed that was only done in protest or to make a point. Today, fasting is simply part of our family’s daily lifestyle.
A good friend shared her success story with us, we researched it, and a year ago we started our 18-hour-a-day fasting journey. Here’s what we found.
1. Weight Loss & Fat Burning The extended fasting window helps the body burn stored fat for energy, reducing bloating while promoting fat loss. We start each morning with mold-free coffee, ghee, collagen, and creatine, and aren’t hungry until the 18-hour mark. Eating in our six-hour window has gone down, too. The net result: we’ve lost 40 pounds as a family.
2. Improved Insulin Sensitivity By avoiding glucose in the morning, we get off the insulin rollercoaster, fasting enhances insulin sensitivity and helps regulate blood sugar, reducing the risk of insulin resistance.
3. Boosted Metabolism & Cellular Repair My joints feel better! For years I suffered from joint soreness, and now it’s gone. Extended fasting triggers autophagy, a cellular process that clears out damaged cells and supports regeneration, which may reduce inflammation and support metabolic health.
4. Enhanced Mental Clarity & Focus Creatine in our coffee, combined with fasting, has left us with noticeably better concentration and focus. The body’s use of ketones as an alternative energy source may also support brain function.
5. Heart Health Benefits Our cholesterol levels have improved and inflammation has gone down, supporting cardiovascular health. Fasting may help regulate blood pressure in some individuals.
After 18 hours without food, the body isn’t out of energy. It’s using a different source. Carbohydrates convert into glucose, which insulin moves into cells while the liver stores the extra as glycogen.
As the fast continues, insulin falls and the body shifts to burning stored fat, producing ketones by around 12 to 18 hours. Timing varies with exercise, diet, sleep, and metabolic health, so 18 hours isn’t a magic threshold.
We first thought fasting was something done elsewhere for religious reasons, now we’re part of a community sharing its life-altering benefits at home with your family. Combine fasting with healthy eating, organic vegetables, grass-fed protein, and you’ll feel the difference within a week.
