TTC wants feedback on Eglinton Crosstown experience

TTC wants feedback on Eglinton Crosstown experience. The year 2026 brings some relief and hope for Scarborough transit riders.

For beleaguered Scarborough transit riders, 2026 is bringing some relief and hope. The Eglinton Crosstown finally opened in February, the Scarborough subway extension has reached a major milestone and the Scarborough Busway is under construction and on track to open as scheduled later this year.

While the saga of the perpetually delayed Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown is now over, the LRT Line hasn’t yet fully opened. It’s actually still in an “introductory service period.”

For the next several months, the TTC will not operate Line 5 at full, regular schedule, but instead will close the line early at 11pm. The TTC says this is to “allow for an extended overnight maintenance window and operator training. Shuttle buses run nightly from 10pm to 1:20am.

Crosstown riders can share their thoughts about the new LRT line with the TTC by filling in a 3-4 minute survey. The TTC says the survey will “help us understand what’s working well and where the TTC and Metrolinx can enhance your overall experience.” They also say they are “committed to being open and transparent about what we learn and will share updates on the actions we take so you can see how your feedback contributes to a better transit experience.” Riders can find the survey on the TTC website.

“The TTC says the Busway is “still on track to open in September” but would not provide any additional details about construction milestones.”

“Diggy Scardust” the Scarborough Subway’s tunnel boring machine recently completed half of the almost 7km tunnel. It’s currently digging in the neighbourhood of McCowan Road and Lawrence Ave East. More than 2,000 tunnel liner rings have also been installed. The machine will dig until it reaches the already built extraction shaft at Eglinton Ave East and Midland Ave, just east of Kennedy station. Work is also continuing at Scarborough Centre Station, where four drill rigs and three support cranes are now ready to install the shoring piles for the main entrance and the underground station box. At Kennedy Station, work on improving the ventilation system to handle the increased demand of the future subway is also ongoing.

MPulse reached out to the TTC for an update on the Line 3 Scarborough Busway, which is being built along the route of the old RT line. The TTC says the Busway is “still on track to open in September” but would not provide any additional details about construction milestones.

When it opens, buses will run along a 4km dedicated right-of-way between Kennedy Station and Ellesmere Station. Buses will then run along Ellesmere in the priority bus lanes to Scarborough Town Centre.
