Seniors MiWay cash fare jumps from $1 to $4.50

Seniors MiWay cash fare jumps from $1 to $4.50. Fare becomes free if seniors sign up for and use PRESTO card.

Mississauga seniors used to paying cash MiWay fares are in for a shock this year as fares jumped 450% on January 1. The new cash fare for seniors, adults and youth is now $4.50. Last year seniors paid $1.00 for a cash fare.

The city says the steep price hike is an incentive for everyone to start using PRESTO. Seniors with a PRESTO card can ride MiWay for free, so long as they visit a customer service outlet and provide ID to have their PRESTO card set at the 65+ senior rate.

The adult PRESTO fare is $3.50 and the youth PRESTO fare is $2.90. Monthly passes are also available with PRESTO for $145.

As of April 1, the city will also introduce new low income single ride PRESTO fares in conjunction with the Region of Peel and the Affordable Transit Program (ATF).

Currently, approved low-income individuals can get a 50% discount on an ATF monthly pass. Beginning April 1, single ride AFT PRESTO fares will also be available to approved low-income riders at 50% off the single ride fare for both adults and youth/students.
