Photographer Trevor Godinho to receive Scarborough Walk of Fame star

Photographer Trevor Godinho to receive Scarborough Walk of Fame star. Honourees include Andre de Grasse, Fefe Dobson.

Trevor Godinho told MPulse that he credits his youth in Scarborough for teaching him to be “resilient, to hustle, and to keep levelling up.” The internationally renowned photographer and multidisciplinary artist will receive a star on Scarborough’s Walk of Fame at the 2026 induction ceremony on April 15th at the Scarborough Town Centre.

Godinho immigrated to the McCowan and Sheppard area from Bahrain – his family was originally from India – in 1989 and he attended local Catholic schools. He then completed his last year of high school at Wexford Collegiate.

It was at Wexford that he found photography and “caught the bug” that would eventually see him working in the industry after completing his post-secondary education at Sheridan College and the University of Toronto Mississauga campus.

Godinho’s fashion and commercial photography appears in magazines around the world including Playboy, Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Forbes, Vogue, and Elle. In 2009 he photographed Michael Douglas and after that, slipped down the “rabbit hole” of portraiture.

He found that portrait photography allowed him to stretch himself as an artist, pursuing questions of human nature, trying to understand people and tell their stories. The list of celebrities he’s photographed is long, and includes Helen Mirren, George Clooney, James Earl Jones, John Legend, and 2009 Scarborough Walk of Fame Inductee, Dwayne de Rosario.

Despite his many accomplishments and career success, Godinho says he still felt something was missing. In 2018 he started photographing Canadian veterans and a new passion for giving back was born.

Through his HONOUR COUNTRY SACRIFICE project he takes photographs of Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans and gives the public “a glimpse of the humanity and personalities” of the individual Canadians who serve. His project is mostly self-funded and his work was recognized with a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in 2024.

Godinho continues to give back by also working for a youth non-profit and volunteering his photography skills with charities such as Jays Care and the Joe Carter Classic.

He’s excited to be recognized by the Scarborough Walk of Fame and is pleased to see how far Scarborough has come over the years. He says he felt when he was a kid there were far fewer programs available, especially in the arts.

Now, the opportunities for Scarborough kids are much greater. Still, he says he feels it’s important for “Scarborough people to lift other Scarborough people” and keep pushing for more investment in this area of the city, whether that be in infrastructure or opportunities for youth.

The other honourees include Olympian Andre de Grasse, musician Fefe Dobson, local businessman Jesse Asido, educator Dr. Ashleigh Malloy, community organizer Geetha Moorthy and philanthropists John and Cathy Phillips.
