Josh Naylor brought the Mississauga love

Josh Naylor brought the Mississauga love. Mariners games bring focus to Josh Naylor Mississauga connection.

Mississauga got a big boost in shout-outs last month, as the city’s own Josh Naylor made it to the American Championship League Series as a team member of the Seattle Mariners.

While it wouldn’t have surprised baseball fans to hear of Toronto Blue Jays players hailing from or around Toronto, that one of the opposing team’s star players came from the Toronto area was noteworthy trivia for many.

Naylor, who attended St. Joan of Arc and Churchill Meadows schools in Mississauga while growing up, definitely drew the spotlight to the city. There were many social media mentions of Naylor’s connections and sports broadcast repeatedly referenced that he hailed from Mississauga.

KOMO News, a Seattle television station, did a feature on Naylor’s experiences growing up in Mississauga.

During a post-game interview, the star first baseman said playing in the series in Toronto was “super cool to do it front of my family too. I’m very blessed to have them all here, all my friends. It was a really cool moment for them.”

A viral social media post from fan Michael Gerald Gibbs pointed out that Naylor wore a Canadian flag on his belt.

“That’s just in case anyone forgets he’s a Canadian from Mississauga!” Gibbs wrote, in a post that received many likes. “So whatever happens this series, never boo Josh. He’s one of us.”

Josh isn’t the only member of the Naylor family who’s gone on to baseball success. His two brothers Myles and Bo are also professional ball players.
