Bronte, Austen brought to the stage in Scarborough

The Guild Festival Theatre is excited to bring 19th Century Gothic fiction to the outdoor stage this summer in Scarborough. Bronte: The World Without by Jordi Mand will run from July 16 to August 2 and Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey will run August 6 to August 23.

“Inspired by Gothic literature and the great women writers of the 19th century, GFT’s 2026 programming features a theatrical imagining of the lives of the beloved Bronte sisters and an irreverent new adaptation of a Jane Austen classic,” says the theatre company’s website.

For 14 years, the Guild Festival Theatre has brought live theatre in the park to the classical Greek stage on the grounds of the Guild Park and Gardens.

In an email to Mpulse, GTF called their production of Northanger Abbey a “charming coming-of-age story” and said it is a “funny and fast-paced journey of first love and self-discovery.”

Tickets are priced from $16.25 to $32.50 and can be bought online at: www.guildfestivaltheatre.ca
