Committee members will act as conduit for community concerns and promoting local perspectives.
Metrolinx is looking for Scarborough residents to apply to join the Construction Liaison Committee (CLC) for the Scarborough Subway Extension.
The CLC will be made up of up to 15 members who live, work or have some other meaningful connection and involvement to Scarborough and are in some way impacted by the construction of the Scarborough subway extension project.
The subway extension project replaces the Scarborough rapid transit line that is now closed and will extend the Bloor-Danforth line by three stations, ending at Sheppard and McCowan.
“The CLC is an advisory group,” explains the transit agency. “It will help Metrolinx better understand community perspectives and local impacts, but it does not approve, reject or direct project decisions, design or construction activities.”
They add that: “Members will share feedback from their communities, organizations and networks, and help keep Scarborough informed as the project progresses.”
The committee members will meet four teams per year, with some email and phone updates taking place in between these meetings. Metrolinx does not specify whether these are volunteer roles or not, but such governmental advisory committees are typically unpaid positions.
The agency explains that the CLC is different from the Construction Impact Tables — which is where immediate construction concerns, such as noise, vibration and traffic impacts, are addressed.
Metrolinx requests that all interested applicants fill in an Expression of Interest form on the Scarborough extension website by the deadline of July 12. Metrolinx staff will then be in touch to notify people if they have been selected or not. The first committee meeting will be held in September.
