Metrolinx seeks public input for Scarborough subway station names

Survey only open for a short period, with limited publicity

Metrolinx has now wrapped up a short-lived online survey that sought input from Scarborough residents for new subway station names.

“Metrolinx is inviting Scarborough residents, transit riders, students, families, businesses and community members across the GTHA to share ideas for the future names of three new subway stations in Scarborough: Sheppard and McCowan, Scarborough Centre, Lawrence and McCowan”.

An online survey was created, however it appears that it was only live for a short period of time — a matter of days.

The provincial agency responsible for the construction of the subway line sent notice to media on May 13 about the existence of the survey, and the last day to submit responses was May 18.

This is much shorter than many public consultation windows, which can stay open for months. The survey did not appear to be publicized on Metrolinx social media platforms. It is unclear why this was the case.

The public is still able though to offer feedback or ask questions on the Scarborough subway project — including ideas on names of stations — at any time by emailing ScarboroughSubwayExtension@metrolinx.com.
