Scarborough street named after crash victim Danielle Moore

Moore died in 2019 plane crash

A street in Scarborough has been named Danielle Moore Circle in honour of a young woman from the area who tragically died in a 2019 plane crash.

Danielle Moore was among the 157 aboard the Ethiopian Airlines plane that was leaving the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on its way to Kenya when it crashed minutes after takeoff. There were 17 other Canadians on the flight. Moore, who was 24 at the time, was heading to a United Nations Environment Assembly event in Nairobi.

“Had the honour of naming a street Danielle Moore Circle at 2740 Lawrence Avenue East, in memory of an extraordinary young woman from our Scarborough community whose passion for the environment and service continues to inspire,” wrote Scarborough Centre Councillor Michael Thompson, in a social media post marking the unveiling ceremony of the street.

The crash was the second of two fatal airplane disasters involving the Boeing 737 MAX planes that led to the temporary grounding of that type of plane.
