Scarborough Rouge Park by-election underway

A city council by-election to replace former councillor Jennifer McKelvie is now underway in Scarborough-Rouge Park, the city’s most eastern ward.

McKelvie, who served as acting mayor for several months in 2023, is now the Liberal MP for Ajax after winning in this year’s federal election.

Shawn Allen, the former president of the Scarborough Business Association, is one of the candidates running in the council election.

There are currently 18 candidates registered.

The candidates include Shawn Allen, Zakir Patel, Neethan Shan and Anu Sriskandarajah.

Allen is the former president of the Scarborough Business Association and head of a mortgage business. The other three candidates are all trustees in the current Toronto District School Board.

Voting day for residents in this ward is September 29.
