New speed humps approved for several Scarborough streets

Scarborough road users can now expect to encounter speed humps and perhaps slower calmer traffic along several roads in the community.

Scarborough Community Council met on May 1 to vote on the installation of speed humps along 8 roads located in Wards 21, 22, 24 and 25.

It is important to distinguish speed humps from speed bumps. The first is a longer and more gradual section of raised ground. The second is a shorter and more abrupt bump in the road.

The council has unanimously decided to install the following speed humps in a bid to calm traffic in these areas:

• Beran Drive, between Kollar Drive and Confederation Drive – 4-speed humps

• Colonel Danforth Trail, between Lawson Road and the southeast end of Colonel

Danforth Trail – 17 speed humps.

• Confederation Drive, between Greencrest Circuit and Scarborough Golf Club

Road – 13-speed humps.

• Holmfirth Terrace, between Greencrest Circuit and Scarborough Golf Club Road

– 9-speed humps.

• Huntsmill Boulevard, between Bamburgh Circle and Arnall Avenue – 14-speed

humps.

• Kollar Drive, between Confederation Drive and the north end of Kollar Drive – 4-

speed humps.

• Ranstone Gardens, between Birchmount Road and Kennedy Road – 11-speed

humps.

• Stevenwood Road, between Confederation Drive and Markham Road – 5-speed

humps.
