Disc golf coming to Scarborough soon. The city has seven disc golf courses — with none in Scarborough.
The City of Toronto has conducted a public consultation on whether or not to build a disc golf course in the norther part of Scarborough and to seek public input on what would be the best location.
Disc golf, sometimes known as frisbee golf, involves throwing a disc a long discuss and trying to make it land in a metal basket. The sport has grown in popularity in recent years and was taken up by many people during the pandemic.
“Disc golf is an inclusive, low-cost outdoor activity that promotes physical fitness and community connection,” Scarborough North Councillor Jamaal Myers wrote, encouraging residents to participate in the consultations which ended in October.
“Your input will help identify the best possible location and design for this new public amenity,” Councillor Myers added.
The City currently has seven publicly owned disc golf courses. Two of them are inside city golf courses — Dentonia Park and Scarlett Woods — and are only accessible in the winter months when regular golf is closed. The other five are located in municipal parks. All of them are free to use and operate unsupervised, on a first come, first served basis.
Despite Scarborough’s significant land mass and ample green space, there are no disc golf courses in Scarborough. The closest is in Thorncliffe Park’s ET Seton Park. There are no private disc golf courses in Toronto and very few in Ontario.
The sport — first created in the 1960s — is most popular in the United States, which boasts over 7000 courses. Finland comes second with 1000 courses and Canada is third with 300 courses.
It is unknown when the results of the public consultation will be released and the timeline for next steps of the project.

Do you support a disc golf course coming to Scarborough? While inexpensive, green space at parks may be used for the course. However, when the course is not used by players, it is still accessible to the public. How should we proceed? Let us know at info@mpulse.ca
