Changes planned to “revolutionize” Mississauga Music Walk of Fame. Music industry veteran Joey Cee says local scene “growing very big, very quickly”.
Nominations for the 2026 induction to the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame closed on February 28th. The Walk of Fame Board invited the public to nominate “deserving individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to the music industry and have a strong connection to Mississauga .” Nominations for 2027 will open early next year.
Founded in 2012 by late Mississauga City Councillor Jim Tovey, a former rock musician himself with his own star on The Walk (awarded after his death in 2017), the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame recognizes the achievements of local musicians and music industry professionals through a display in Port Credit Memorial Park.
Mpulse recently spoke with Joey Cee, a music industry veteran, long-time Mississauga resident, current member of the Walk of Fame Board and past inductee (2014) about the live music scene in Mississauga and future plans for The Walk.
He told Mpulse that exciting changes are in the works to “revolutionize” the Walk to better match it to our cold and snowy climate. Plans for the new Walk of Fame, which will see the stars mounted off the ground so that they won’t be covered by snow in winter, will be unveiled later this year. It’s part of a broader “enhanced walk experience,” which has been in the works since 2023.
He also said the stars will continue to come with QR codes, which allow visitors to easily look up a winner and listen to their music on the spot, enhancing the interactive experience of the Walk.
According to Cee, the music scene in Mississauga is “growing very big, very quickly.” He says it’s great to see the “younger crowd coming out” and that the city, including the Mississauga Arts Council and Mayor Parrish, have been “very supportive.”
Last year’s inductees were “internationally acclaimed musician, songwriter, and Prince guitarist,” Donna Grantis and “legendary Mississauga hard-rock trio,” TRIUMPH.
This year’s induction ceremony will again take place in September at Memorial Park. The ceremony is timed to happen during the Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival.
