More auto theft arrests in Peel Region

Arrests come as Peel release report numbers. Over 1100 charges have been laid on 543 people since January 2023.

Peel Regional Police have made arrests following extensive investigations into organized car thefts. Peel police recently arrested three individuals – Shan Nouri (20), Syed Ahmed Shah (23) and Enias Marunza (21) — for several auto-related offences.

Police responded to two separate theft incidents of a 2025 Honda Grey CRV and a 2025 Honda White CRV, which were stolen in Mississauga between April 27 and 28.

Officers located one of the vehicles in an auto repair shop on April 30 in the area of Hale Road and Bramsteele Road in Brampton.

A search warrant was issued for the premises, which resulted in the seizure of evidence and also multiple vehicles, which are valued at over $100,000. Registration documents, stolen license plates, key fobs and also an animal were recovered by the police.

Further investigations have shown that the auto body repair shop has been allegedly involved in staged collisions and information sharing with automobile insurance companies.

This arrest comes after months of investigations into car thefts that have been detailed in Peel Regional Police’s Auto Theft First Quarter Update. They explain that they have recovered almost half of the vehicles stolen in the region since the beginning of 2025, with a total value of $26 million. In addition to this, 479 auto theft charges have been laid against 257 people.

Since 2022, the rate of such crimes has been on the rise, leading to Peel police and the Peel Police Service Board holding the first ever auto theft summit in 2023. This platform was used to bring together law enforcement, government officials and industry partners. They came together to share recommendations to combat organized auto theft and also raise awareness in the community.

These combined efforts have resulted in the following, according to police:

• $380 million in recoveries since January 2023, which is equal to 7400 vehicles.

• Over 1100 charges have been laid on 543 people since January 2023.

• 16 per cent decrease in thefts in 2024 compared to 2023

• 45 per cent reduction in thefts compared to last year.

Peel police also launched the #9PMRoutine campaign that shares insights and tips with the community for people to safeguard themselves from organized auto theft crimes.

In addition to this, they have also shared that areas like large remote parking lots, airports, shopping malls, GO train stations, movie theatres, and residential driveways and unlocked garages are likely places for theft.

Some tips that the police share include:

• Park vehicles in locked garages and ensure your property is well-lit.

• Do not leave running vehicles unattended and always ensure to lock car doors and roll up windows.

• Avoid leaving keys by the front door and opt to store them in a FARADAY/RFID blocking device.

• Invest in outdoor security cameras, GPS trackers, remote vehicle shut-off devices, etc.

• Avoid storing valuables or packages in the vehicles.
